Anybody get any cool gear for Christmas?

So did anybody get any gear for Christmas (or in my case get money towards a gear purchase)?
Paul Baker

Not yet.... got gift cards to Guitar Center though..... now it's time to shop!
jcbranam

Yeah same here I got a visa gift card and one to guitar center plus some cash. So now to figure out what pedal to buy.

It would have been nice to get something guitar related for Christmas but then I can't think of what I would want. Mr. Green
calebrocker

got a guitar center gift card. i'll put it towards a dvd or a boss dd-7 delay pedal.

i also got a pretty sweet fender mustang hoodie. =]

If you get the DD-7 give us a review. I am looking to get rid of my multi-fx unit in the future and go the single stompbox route and a DD-5 or DD-7 are on the top of the wish list.

MXR has come out with a delay box called the Carbon Copy Analog Delay. Sells for $150.00 @ GC.

I am hearing nothing but good about it. You may want to check it out.
jcbranam

I will look into that, the main reason I was going with DD7 or 5 is b/c of the external tap tempo feature which I find extremely useful.
Paul Baker

Yeah, the MXR doesn't seem to have much in the way of bells & whistles....
calebrocker

well, I ended up buying another G3 dvd lol. Just can't get enough with the good ol' wacky Vai.

however, I do play with the DD7 every single time I go to guitar center, and i really like it. it's a very versatile delay pedal, with lots of cool things you can do. it has more time settings than the older delay, it has a reverse delay (it pretty much makes your guitar sound backwards when you play it) and my favorite feature of all..a build in looper. with the hold feature, you can play anything and loop it and even layer over and over again. it also has a tap tempo feature if you don't feel like bending over to change your delay speed. great pedal, some of the effects are a little unpractical for my playing, but i know some other guitarists who'd like to explore with weird things, and it's a bit expensive but since you get the loop pedal built in..it'd be worth it for me, personally.
jcbranam

The loop function would be practical for me since I'm the only electric guitarist at my church and could layer parts. Maybe find it on ebay used or amazon instead of paying 160 and some change.

Well, I finally made it to GC to buy my Christmas presents. I decided to get a speaker to upgrade my combo amp. I bought a Eminence - Cannibis Rex and some new pre-amp tubes. The old one's have been in there for about 5 yrs. now. I bought one for my Vox Tonelab SE also. Next thing is to get my #1 (strat) re-fretted. Been playing it for about 10 yrs. it's due.
jcbranam

What amp are you putting the C. Rex into?
Paul Baker

I have a Peavey Ultra 112. If your not familiar, it's the predecessor to the  Triple X series. 3 channel high gain. Late 90's.
jcbranam

how do you like the c rex in your amp? I am getting my amp modded by omega amps and everyone recommends putting a c rex in the amp i've got.
Paul Baker

Not sure how it sounds yet, GC had to order it and it is a backorder because of the holidays they say. I will let you know as soon as I get it and get it installed. They project shipping around the 2nd of Feb. You let me know also. What kind of amp are you moding?
jcbranam

I'm getting my Hot Rod Deluxe modded by omega amps. Jim, the owner, revoices the clean and drive channels completely and improves the input jacks and volume pots.  It's supposed to correct all the shortcomings everyone has of the fender hot rod series. And the final piece to the puzzle, as noted by most people who've had it modded, is the C Rex. It's supposed to be tame the highs and tighten up the bass.
Paul Baker

Cool, those Hot Rods are some of Fenders best. I was wanting to look at that newer amp, the Super Sonic..... but my wife says that if I bring home another amp or guitar she's gonna leave........... I'm gonna miss her....LOL! Just kiddin'
jcbranam

Yeah I just got married last May and I keep forgetting I have to run my gear purchases by her first.  That is something I still getting used to.
Paul Baker

Yeah, and it's hard to get them to understand that the quest for TONE never ends!!!!

hahahahahaha!
Paul Baker

I finally got my speaker!

Well I finally got the speaker and put it in my amp. Sounds good so far and its not even close to being broke in yet.
I had to cancel my order fro GC because it had already been a month and I got an e-mail saying it could be another month before I got it. So I got my money back and went to a store that had it in stock, Fazio's Frets and Friends in Ellisville, Mo.. It's one of the best guitar stores around, they carry some great gear.
jcbranam

Well I finally went to GC this past weekend. I had two $50 gift cards and $150 dollar gift card from work.  So in the end I bought a Boss DD7, Boss FS-5U (tap tempo pedal), EB Jr Volume Pedal, and a few patch cables to connect them all.  So I will probably parting with my Boss ME50 in the near future.
