What are the joys and difficulties you have found over the years of playing guitar in church?

well the joys far out way the difficulity with me.

Joys are feeling the anoiting when I am playin and watching some one in the crowd or altar being moved by the music and knowing that your are making a difference.

Difficulities are not having a good night and seeming that what ever you play doesn't fit. ( maybe just Gods way of keeping me humble )

But if I would ever not play in church there would be a huge hole left in my life.

I also agree that the mean a lot more than any difficulties.

The joys for me are knowing that I'm helping to create an atmosphere of worship and praise. Another joy for me is that recently the pastor/keyboardist of the P&W team told me that the since I started going to the church that it has opened a whole new area of music that before they were unable to explore because they were more guitar driven songs. The other joy is more of a collective one from our churches P&W team but its being invited to provide the music for the IBC 14-15 yr old camp this July.

The few difficulties I've faced is having a bad night playing, messing up on chords or riffs. The other difficulties is trying to find a balance between the new songs and the hymnals so that everyone in the congregation feels moved.

But like I said I love having the opportunity to use my God given talent for him and seeing the effects of it in the service

you know, for me the big thing is just sitting back and realizing that what we do, we do for the honor and glory of God. i get so much joy out of knowing that God is prolly kicking back just enjoying the music!! when i came to my church, all they had for musicians was the pastor's wife, who plays the piano, and the pastor's son, who plays the drums. the church had been praying for more musicians for a long time and i finally felt the call to come back to God and it all worked out that i ended up here. since i've come, we've added me as a guitarist/trombonist/singer and another brother as a trumpet/piano/drum player. we are also looking at adding a percussion section as well. so for me, i feel so much joy knowing that i've been able to make such an impact on such an amazing church.
as for difficulties:
as i've said, this church isn't used to having so many musicians so we run into problems with the sound engineers not really knowing how to create a balance between everybody. but as long as i can hear myself in my earphones, then i'm good cuz i know God can hear me!!

the joys i have are when evrything is perfect, when my solo is melodic and flowing and then smooth transitioning back into a nice funk rhythm and being able to just close my eyes and feel the LORD working that through.  talk about heavenly places.

difficulties,  when your drummer is continually speeding up faster and faster and everyone on the team is trying to harness this without hurting feelings or discouraging a fellow praise team member

I count it as a honor to be able to minister with and instrument or my singing voice. I gives me great joy to know that God has asked me to do something for him after all he has done and given to me. He gave me the ability to be a musician and it belongs to him. No real difficulties.... except for sound men! Mad   Shocked   Sad   Laughing
