Post Guitar Amps Reply with quote
Hey Brothers, I have a question.  I currently have a Marshall 2x12 solid state amp that I have had sitting around for some time and was thinking about getting ride of it and picking up something a little more easy to tote around.  I don't generally use an amp.  I tend to just run direct into the sound system.  However, there are those times when you have to play outside.  I am not really looking for an amp that has tons of effects on it since I use a Boss GT-6 for all those features.  So, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Well if you want something that is easier to tote around you probably want a combo amp. The next thing is do you want a tube or a solid state amp. I prefer tube but if you're not going to get regular use out of the amp you might want to go solid state. That being said I am more familiar with tube so I will give you some reasonable priced tube amps. I will start with Fender since I am most familiar with these amps. I believe they have the best cleans for an affordable amp.

Fender
Fender Blues Junior $480
15 watt 1x12 speaker very light at around 30lbs with a single channel setting. This amp gets great reviews all over the internet. If I remember correctly Chris Tomlin's guitarist Daniel Carson has one and sings its praises.

Fender Pro Junior  $380
15 watt 1x10 speaker also very light at around 30lbs and a single channel amp. This amp also gets solid reviews from users.

Blackheart
BH5-112  $250
This is a 5w 1x12 tube amp with a single channel and a 3 band eq. I am unfamiliar with these amps but have seen good reviews from these amps.

Palomino
V16 $350
This is a 15w 1x12 tube amp with single channel but includes a boost switch and 3 band eq. This amp does come with built in spring reverb.

Peavey
Windsor Studio $400
This is a 20w 1x12 tube amp with single channel with boost, 3 band eq and built in reverb. Amp has built in effects loop, not familiar with this amp and haven't seen many reviews on this amp.

Hope this helps and gives you some direction.

Thanks for the info.  I have seen the reviews recently on the Blackheart amp and want to try one out.
